Lean & Sexy

Whether you are trying to get lean and sexy, improve your health or improve your physical performance, reducing your body fat is, without competition, the most desired goal of those attempting to get fit. It is also the most difficult and confusing.

In Dr. Michael Colgan’s book, “The New Nutrition”, Dr. Colgan writes:

“At The Colgan Institute, we have found that for fat loss, five days a week for 30 minutes is much superior to three days weekly at 70 minutes even though the total weekly time of the three day people is an hour longer. In order to keep the metabolic rate churning, frequent exercise is the key.”

In “The Metabolism System for Weight Loss” Exercise Physiologist Greg Landry of www.greglandry.com writes:

“You won’t find many people telling you to exercise daily. In fact, most “diet” programs or weight loss books you read will not emphasize exercise and that’s simply because so many people have a negative reaction to exercise. You have to start thinking differently about it. Exercise can be fun. The key is finding something you can enjoy doing on a daily basis. Many people think an hour of exercise every day is more than their body can handle, but keep in mind that our bodies were made for and are capable of many hours of physical activity a day. DAILY exercise is absolutely critical to losing weight! DAILY exercise is also very effective at changing a sluggish metabolism into a super-charged metabolism!”

Here are some example benefits of daily physical activity:

  • Start your day with a positive step and foundation in taking responsibility for your own wellness
  • Jump start your metabolism and keep it revved up throughout the day
  • Burn more fat
  • Boost your energy
  • Increase your mental clarity
  • Develop your flexibility
  • Improve your balance
  • Correct and stabilize your posture
  • Strengthen your core
  • Work out and ease those athlete’s knots
  • Reduce the limitations of old battle scars
  • Build functional strength

Stop listening to all the B.S. and following the herd. Get your diet right and add to your morning workout a way to be active that appeals to you. Whether it be yoga, martial arts, body sculpting, competitive sports, mountain biking or dance it doesn’t matter as long as you are moving everyday. Bring out the animal in you and feel and look better for it.

More Health Disinformation

Study: Most kids’ fast-food meals have too many calories

You think! Thank God the Associated Press released this information. Give me a break! I always thought it was just the polluted tap water that was ballooning our nations youth to a level that brought Fat Albert close to the norm. The next thing they will be telling us is that the lack of physical activity of our kids is making them ginourmous.

This article epitomizes the useless, never ending avalanche of information coming from organizations, like the Center for Service in the Public, making the obvious appear to be profound, yet offering only fear and no solution. Their report looked into the nutritional quality of kids’ meals at 13 major restaurant (sic) chains. The center found 93 percent of 1,474 possible choices at the 13 chains exceed 430 calories - an amount that is one-third of what the National Institute of Medicine recommends that children ages 4 through 8 should consume in a day.

I would love to know what the cost of this report was. How does this qualify as a study? Find out how many kids offerings have more than 430 calories, using public displayed nutritional information. I am sure that took quite a team to uncover such a wealth of information.
The report gratuitously states there are some healthy choices on restaurant menus, though, “parents have to navigate a minefield of calories, fat and salt to find them.” This is typical of what we get. The wording creates fear and infers and is meant to steer the reader into believing the task of “navigating that minefield” is beyond their capabilities. This is where our money is spent to educate us on health issues.

Here is a typical pompous, vacuous, finger pointing stand of power and legitimacy by this type of bureaucratic cluster *#@& operations: “Parents want to feed their children healthy meals, but America’s chain restaurants are setting parents up to fail,” CSPI nutrition policy director Margo G. Wootan said in a statement. “McDonald’s, Burger King, KFC, and other chains are conditioning kids to expect burgers, fried chicken, pizza, French fries, macaroni and cheese, and soda in various combination at almost every lunch and dinner.” This ridiculous noxious blast hot air absolute verifies the value of Margo G. Wootan’s and the Center for Service in the Public’s position. The problem couldn’t have anything to do with absolutely zero applicable nutrition education in our education system and the miraculous addition of a dependence of processed food in our diet.
Joan Lowy, the journalist of this AP article, did add a little logic and intelligence to this piece to counter the obnoxious misinformation by the CSPI:

The National Restaurant Association, a business group of about 945,000 restaurants and food outlets, said the trend in the industry was to provide “more detailed nutritional information and choice in menu options for consumers.”
But the group stressed that “exercising parental responsibility is key to childhood nutrition.” The report, it said, “fails to acknowledge the essential role of nutrition education, physical activity and parental responsibility in childhood nutrition - good eating habits and healthy living must be established in the home

Touché!

Think about it! Of course, this is only my opinion and I might be wrong.

We Don’t Need No Stinking Gym

XAVIER-HARD CORE HOME WORKOUT DEVOTEE

The Health Club industry is a 20 billion dollar, smoke blowing operation that has most convinced that they cannot be fit without their hi-tech, over crowded, germ infested, group sweat factories. This is ludicrous insanity. You can and need to do some things that don’t use any equipment. I can create a different workout for everyday of the week that will leave anyone limping, whining and feeling muscles that they didn’t know existed without using one piece of equipment. Are you one of those trapped in a mindset of believing you need cardio equipment to do cardio? Wake up and see the light. You can create a cardio workout anywhere, anytime with nothing more than 10 square feet of space inside your house or hotel room, in your backyard, in your front yard (if you need to show it), at a park, a track, a hiking trail or a beach. Not only will bodyweight-exercise/movement meditation workouts supersede those ridiculous, robotic, group fat burning scenes but they will create a more mobile, active, functional you and if done in the sunshine, provide you with a healthy dose of vitamin D.

Tempers flare over health care plan

Dingell forum rowdy; Peters’ office protested

U.S. Rep. John Dingell was greeted with jeers and cheers Thursday as he tried to explain why changing the nation’s health care system — as he has advocated for more than a half century in Congress — makes sense…

Civic involvement is our needed right to exercise. But you have to question the effectiveness of misinformed, zealous passion as exercised in this growing movement of town hall meeting behavior. From this article, photo and video clips one could easily perceive the sense that this crowd had it all summed up before hand and attended only with the objective of cheering their absolute understanding and position in the matter and heckling Senator Dingell’s opposing viewpoint and stand.

Men are so simple and so much inclined to obey immediate needs that a deceiver will never lack victims for his deceptions — Machiaveli

The ultimate authority must always rest with the individuals own reason and critical analysis. — Dalai Lama

My question to all of these vocal, well informed patriots would be: What is the state of your and your family’s self health care management? Is your diet, exercise and lifestyle habits such that you are doing all you can to create a foundation of health so as to contribute positively to the health care crisis. If you need further explanation, you have already answered the question. If your own self health care is not in order you have seriously damaged your credibility to comment on this issue. Without credibility the louder and more persistent the demagoguery, the more foolish it becomes and the more it supports the oppositional issue. When children act out in such a manner they are labelled by the medical community with ODD

Rigidity in the penis is good, but a poor choice in regard to perspective. –Unknown Zen Philosopher

From my perspective there is not enough mention, application or realization that the most effective contribution we can make to improving the state of health care is by taking responsibility for our own health.

My message is: Never assume you are informed enough and appropriate equal time to your continual education and application of a self health care plan as to listening and taking as verbatim propaganda that is designed to keep the uniformed misinformed.

Artistry, Mindfulness, Origional Expression & Women

Pink Floyd - Back Catalogue

Is it their talent and sensuous, creative efforts that pleases and stimulates our senses, bringing us a level of external joy, that has led cultures throughout time to honor, respect, and admire artistry? Or is there more to it? Could the mindful, arousing, original expression of true art resonate within us and create a brief glimpse of true living, and the joy and bliss that accompanies it. Is it the purity and satisfaction of mindful action  that artists emote in their work be the true source of our infatuation, and desire to emulate them?

The Star, circa 1878
Mindful expression is available in all the actions of life. Physical culture, work, sex, cooking, etc., can all be expressed with artistry. Anything we do can be done meditatively, with total, integrated focus on the moment, and action or thought at hand. We all have moments of being “On”, or in “The Zone.” Being able to call on this state on demand, though, comes less easily. To have this ability on hand takes a little consistent discipline to develop. It is not difficult, but it takes time. Meditation is a very useful tool in learning to control the mind and access our true self.

Viva Degas Three Dancers, 1898

In recognition of Women’s history month, as well as providing an  example of artistry, mindfulness, and original expression,  I felt Edgar Degas’ work would fit nicely.  He not only poignantly captured the romance of the ballet, he also expresses his deep fondness and appreciation of the female form, mystique, energy, and grace in the following pieces.

The many components of the art of mindful living will be explored indeptly In future posts and, “BLue Collar Zen  Holistic anti-aging, optimal performance, and contentment through physical culture and self realization.” Until then think about it and enjoy the supreme efforts of Edgar Degas.

Vibrational Weight Loss and Fitness?

Vibrate Your Way to a Lean and Sexy New You

“Your body is precious. It is your vehicle for awakening. Treat it with care”                                                      - Buddha

I am very passionate about my belief and work in helping people live a life of better health and service, as a means of supporting their self realization. There is a current plague of failed health, fitness and weight management currently taking place. It is robbing people of needed energy, energy to perform, grow, serve, and enjoy life. Hatin’ isn’t part of my act, but when blatant greed allows gross misinformation to be promoted that plays off the vulnerability of those that are suffering from the above mentioned plague, it takes me directly back to my blue collar, working class Italian roots and ‘pisses’ me off.

Progress comes to those who train and train. Reliance on secret techniques will get you nowhere.                  - Morihei Ueshiba

‘Vibrations’ are not the reason you are overweight, unfit, lethargic, and apathetic. It is because of ‘actions’ that you have chosen to apply or ignore that are directly responsible for your state. Billions of dollars are generated annually by unoriginal, greedy, sales-whores. It is a very simple formula: Play into the laziness that is part of human nature and promise ‘secret’, ‘breakthrough’ results with little or no work for things that can only be attained by work.

Jerry & Esther Hicks have every right to whine about the ‘The Secret’ promoting Abraham’s promoting of Buddhist philosophy reworded for a contemporary western audience.  If they choose to harbor negative vibrations towards “The Secret” because of being cut out of the revenue stream of that financial bonanza, I certainly believe they have the right to. When Jerry & Ester Hicks, along with Abraham start peddling “Think and Get Slim: Natural Weight Loss” they have crossed the line and shown a lack of dignity and greed that is pathetic. I don’t see where being an overt charlatan qualifies for sharing the love and serving humanity. I listened restlessly to this vacuous, circular expelling of hot air to give it a fair shot at providing any discernable value. I found none. Watch for yourself, and take a keen note of the expressions on the faces of this flock of human sheep in this audience:

Why do I even bother to react to this ridiculous, circular play on words? Because I care about people and know that this kind on nonsense only creates more confusion and gives people a reason to quit putting out an effort to properly care for their physical vehicle, which in turn robs them of seeing their personal potential in all areas of life. Health, happiness and fulfillment can only be attained by the right action, fueled from right thought. RIGHT THOUGHT ALONE WILL NOT MELT AWAY THOSE UNWANTED POUNDS! Only healthy eating, clean water, daily physical activity, and proper rest will create a healthy vehicle that is not overweight and able to perform.

It saddens me to see people so reliant on others for what they know they must me self-reliant on. Maybe the plethora of confusing misinformation makes it difficult, but it does not eradicate the knowledge that there are concrete steps that need to be taken to get finite results! Those steps need to be taken by the individual. Our lives are defined by our performance. That performance is a summation of our actions. This applies to all areas of life including respecting and caring for our own physical vehicle. It is time to stop being one of the herd of sheep and just allowing yourself to be herded to slaughter, or being one of the pack of lemmings blindly following those in front of you off a cliff to your doom.

The mind must be developed by you alone. There is no way for others to do the work and for you to reap the results. Reading someone else’s blueprint of mental progress will not transfer its realizations to you. You have to develop them yourself.                                                                                                                           - Dalai Lama

The Power Plate is a very expensive vibrating platform. The vibrations create instability as does working on any surface that challenges stability (grass, foam pads, standing on one leg, balance boards etc.)  Power Plate® claims to challenge stability in all three planes, which any surface that challenges stability will do. Bottom line is that you can accomplish all that is accomplished on a Power Plate without spending $2000-$12,000 and having a very noisy piece of equipment taking up space.  http://www.powerplate.com/
